Leadership
Ray Hornosky Jr.
A Lifetime in Shipping. A Legacy of Leadership.
Ray Hornosky Jr.
Founder & Principal Broker
Ray Hornosky Jr.'s career in shipping began in 1981 under the mentorship of Mr. and Mrs. James Olsner of Oyster Bay, New York. Following his graduation from The King's College, he joined Oceanic Operations Corp., where he managed a fleet of tugs and freshwater barges while overseeing fleet insurance — experience that laid the foundation for a career built on discipline, precision, and operational excellence.
Between 1983 and 1985, Ray completed three intensive chartering and operations courses at the World Trade Center. One of his instructors was the renowned Nick Melitas, whose practical approach to shipbroking helped shape Ray's understanding of the industry and strengthen the commercial skills that would serve him throughout his career.
Ray later joined Moran Towing & Transportation, where he dispatched ocean-going tugs and barges, coordinated with pilots, and gained extensive knowledge of New York Harbor operations, including port restrictions, tidal conditions, and draft limitations.
In 1986, he joined Bouchard Transportation in Hicksville, New York, further expanding his expertise in vessel operations and marine transportation. By 1990, Ray was appointed Operations Manager at Heath Chartering, where he supervised vessel operations, agent appointments, invoicing, laytime calculations, and freight settlements — before moving to the chartering desk to develop his own client portfolio.
In 1994, Ray and his wife, Leslie, founded North Harbour Shipping LLC. Combining Leslie's steadfast support with Ray's industry experience and entrepreneurial vision, they built the company into a respected name in international shipbroking and commodity logistics.
Today, Ray is recognized for his expertise in pre-fixture and post-fixture advisory services, helping charterers, traders, and shipowners navigate complex voyage and time charter negotiations. He also served as a Director of the Association of Shipbrokers, USA, for eleven years.

The Soul of North Harbour.
"North Harbour Shipping wouldn't exist without Leslie."
Over 32 years ago, she looked me in the eye and said, "You can do this." I wasn't so sure. I didn't want a computer. I thought I could handle everything myself. Looking back, that was wildly naive — but it was her belief in me that made me believe in myself.
Leslie didn't just encourage the idea, she built the foundation. She's been the quiet engine behind our success, handling administration, finance, and public relations with precision and grace. She keeps the business running, the numbers clean, and the relationships strong.
And then there's her other life — the one that begins when the sun goes down. Leslie has been singing since she was 14. By day, she's the backbone of our company. By night, she's a performer with soul, stage presence, and a voice that moves people. That duality — discipline and artistry — is what makes her extraordinary.
I still remember the early days: typewritten charter parties, oversized templates, rulers, cross-outs, and white-out. No tech. Just hustle. Leslie was right there, making sure we didn't miss a beat.
She's not just my partner in life. She's the reason North Harbour Shipping exists. Leslie is proof that behind every great company is someone who believed before anyone else did.

Our Mission
Representing Both Sides with Integrity
We act as a trusted intermediary — working equally for ship owners and cargo owners to find the freight rate that makes every deal work. Our independence is our strength.
My job is to find the number that works for both sides. That's what keeps people coming back.
How We Work
Representing Both Sides
Unlike brokers who represent only one party, North Harbour Shipping works as a neutral intermediary — equally committed to finding the right outcome for ship owners and cargo owners alike.
This dual-representation model means we understand both sides of every negotiation, enabling faster deal-making and more durable commercial relationships.
For Ship Owners
We source qualified cargo to keep your vessels moving and your revenue predictable — matching your fleet's capacity to the right cargo at the right rate.
For Cargo Owners
We identify the right vessel for your cargo, negotiate competitive freight rates, and manage the logistics so your goods move on schedule.
Where We Operate
Five Continents. One Point of Contact.
